Yeah, it slips but just during the shift. A manual transmission slips in-between gears as you downshift as well. Once the tranny gets in the right gear, and the torque converter locks up then you shouldn't be slipping any more. Just pure engine braking, and as far as I know...no slippage = no wear.

I watched the "Out Of Gas" episode last nite for the first time in ages, you know where Mal has all those flashbacks about how he picked his Spaceship and hired the crew? He turns Jayne mid-battle onto his side, hires Kaylee after catching her having sex in the engine room, lol...

so the transmission will still wear down a little bit when it is down shifting (like just during the shift, and how long is that 0.5s)?
