Default GS400 vs GS300 (Gas Mileage...I've searched/read) its for my father

Well I'm down to a GS400/GS300 or IS300. I have a majority of the $ but my parents are willing to help me out with a few thousand.
I searched all over and I know its been said that the V8 from the 400 gets the same mileage driven with a similar foot on the freeway, as the V8 is geared more fairly to achieve better gas mileage, my father says I'm giving him the "BS card" as I've always liked the "hunch" for power, if you guys can say I'm really not lying, and prove to him that it does get similar gas mileage I'd be much appricated.
As long as I can get ~25-26mpg driving 65mph all is fine.

Check this out, it lists the mileage for the 300 and 400.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Lexus1998.shtml

I have a GS400, and I get 500 miles out of a full tank on the highway. A mix of city and highway driving gets me between 360 to 400 miles.

The gas thread FAQ..it seems the 300's and 400's are getting the same if not mpg that is within 1mpg of the other model and in about 1/2 the cases the 400 is getting the better mileage :weird: lol

18mpg city and 28mpg highway on average for me...depending on driving style.

according to that link, the difference in fuel cost is about 300bucks/year. If you really want a GS4, tell your parents you'll pay for the difference in cost.

Where in cali are you? My friend has both GS300 and GS400, and he says his gas mileage is basically the same. If your dad doesn't believe you, maybe he can speak to my buddy

Are you talking about me??? Lol If I drove a lot on the freeway(70%), the GS4 will do 320-340 miles out of 15 gal. GS3 will do 280-310 miles.
But that will depend on your driving style.

Its a mistake to look at the GS if you concerned with gas mileage ... BMWs tend to get better, even given the same engine size ... and Hondas definitely get better...

I'm steering clear away from BM trouble U's...
Toyota parts are a bit cheaper...
And being able to service major intervals @ toyota dealers is a +; although I'll probably do everything myself minus the timing belt/WP.

The only Honda I'd look at is a TSX and its over my range..I'm steering clear away of the 00-02 TL's as that transmission was a design failure.

Didn't TL/CL get an extended warranty of up to 80k or something?

If your dad is looking for gas milage, keep on shopping.

I get 18/25MPG on the GS430
About 24/30MPG from a BMw 330Ci
About 22/29 MPG from an NSX

That said, the GS is the best highway driver of the group.

It did, but the transmission itself was designed in a faulty manner and fixed in 04/03 for the new chassis.

Soo that being said, with a feather foot (GS300) or IS300; or like the poster above had said GS4?

Default 25-26 mpg at 80

In response to your first post about getting 25-26 mpg at 65mph....I drive my '98 GS400 550 miles each way to school (I-40, Little Rock, AR - Knoxville, TN) and I get between 25 and 26 mpg driving between 70 and 80 the whole way.
