if you flush mount the screen on an Eclipse, the outter body will be sunken in and it would look funny. Take a look at my pic. Look at the edges of the deck, its flush with the oem toyota double din kit. The screen itself is not flush but the outter part of the deck is. Its a poor design by eclipse I guess....

its actually about 1/2in. it doesnt bother me as much as you think it would. when the screen folds down, to eject or insert a disk, it is completely flush. i guess the bulkyness is all in the design.
be sure to post a pic of your flush install, i gotta see it!
