Default Gs400 2000 Transmission Problem

can some kind soul out there give me some answers? please.....

i did an engine replacement. After i installed the engine...the car starts and everything is fine but when i put it in gears the car goes very slow.....in every gear....My rpm is at 3000 but im going only 5 miles.hr. The transmission was fine before the swap but i think something is wrong. no transfer of power like the engine is just spining but it doesnt run the transmission

I swapped the engine on a corolla before and we had the exact same problem. Ended up being that the tranny just needed more fluid. Added some more and tranny worked perfectly. Might be your problem.

Make sure whoever did it installed the torque converter properly. Sounds like it's just slipping too much and not putting any power down. Did they add too little/too much transmission fluid. All these things you need to check.

Yup make sure that your fluids are on the right level and also make sure you added the right tranmission fluid. I made a mistake when I was 14 now I'm 28draining transmissionfliud and filled it with the wrong transmission fluid on a nissan. It did the same thing. Motor revved and the car wouldn't want to move. Good luck!

Default Transmission Problem #2

Thanks so much guys..after i filled up the car with four qt. it drove fine again.

However....something ELSE happened. If seems that the car only goes straight! Even when i shifted to neutral or reverse it still goes forward. I dont know what is happening. I did the motor swap and when i got the motor the engine harness wire does not match the trans. Mine was a black connector and the motor i got was a grey connector. So i cut up the connector and swapped them by the color code.

But anyhow....the car does not go into reverse or netral when started...i only goes reverse...

thanks guys..

It sounds like you did the install yourself. Make sure when you put the shift linkage piece back on that you did it correctly.

Default Transmission Problem #2

I never remove the shaft to the transmission. I only yank out the engine and bolted the new one into the car without removing the transmission...could it be the torque converter....

it seems that the car wants to jump forward Right after the engine is started...but since the car is in park it didnt.

what has also happend is that during installation....i did now remove all the screw to the TC. and when i pull the engine out it got stuck back. so i have to lower the engine and remove the last two screw.

Just a recap...the car goes forward on Reverse and neutral...but drives just fine...

thanks

you prolly crossed some wires......Never cut a main harness unless you are absolutely sure that the connecter you are swaping is the exact same shape, pin numbers in it, and of course the pins are in the same locations as the old one. Chances are that if your connecter was a different color...THERES A REASON...You have the wrong harness or worse case, an engine that is not compatible with your car. Anyways why did you do a engine swap on this car? I Would be checking that first...As for fluids being low an making it only go forward? Thats not possible...Low fluid will make the tranny slip and burn clutches out. I believe...dont mark my words, It has electrical solenoids that control the valve body in the transmisson...If you wired wrong, you can have some strange **** happening. I can not diag your car for you since I cant see it, But as soon as I saw you cut the harness, and wired the connector by color coding scared me. You have to make sure that the wire/pins in the correct place....you can burn a computer out no problem if you back feed it with pin in the wrong place. GOOD LUCK!
