Default Need some advice on 20s for the GS....

looking to get some 20s for the GS but had a few questions that am hoping my GS owners with 20s or others can help me with.
wheels are 20X8.5 all round with +35 offset.
now my questions are;

1. i really will like to get some wheels that will not require me to do any mods to fit. will these do?

2. what tire setup will be the best to get as much comfort while riding as possible? i don't really car for the low profile look as the 20s are good enough but just want the most comfortable tire size that the rims will permit for a comfortable ride.with no mods to though. [Can i get some 20" tires with a 2**/50/20,2**/45/20 or at least a 2**/40/20 sidewall to fit with no problems]
i tried searching but most with 20s here run 2**/35/20.

3. I called the company and was told each wheel is about 35pounds shippable. now i know that means the entire mass weight of the wheel when boxed and figured the wheel itself might be anywhere from 28-30pounds.
Is this too much for a 20" wheel in terms of performance, upsprung weight etc?i know the bigger the wheel, the higher the trade off on speed, takeoff etc.But what is the average weight of 20" wheels that members have on here?

4. And i know with 20s as opposed to 16s,17,18s, the car moves more freely and faster. But what is te average say on 20s. Do they make the car feel "sluggish" when taking off from start or when stepping o gas(as in maybe the car is not responding)?

thanks guys

These are good to go

Fat tire setup, use search

Make a poll?

alright,
i just spent over 2hrs researching the subject.
seems like to maintain ride quality and still have the good looks, most opt for 19s the so-called "fat setup" which gives the ride quality of 18s.
But, there is to my knowledge no fat setup for 20s.
i searched and searched.
even went as far back as this 03 thread.

anybody? info? suggestions?

Hey fellow Torontonian!

Stay away from 20's!

On a GS300 with chrome 20's (I'm sure your're a chrome fan ) , your car will feel like molasses's. I would even venture to say it will be kinda dangerous - car will be too slow to get you out of trouble.

But if you go FI, then you can even go with 21's.

Sorry, not being of much help here. I have not posted on here in a while and needed to post something!

Just go for the 20's but do not get the sizes/offsets you mentioned. Get 20x8.5 and 20x10. Talk to Derrick and tell him you want exactly what Mark aka Lexbox got. My setup is high-disk, and if you slam the *%$# out of it you will have 0 problems unless you try and correct the front camber too much. I can tuck the whole tire in the rear with no scrubbing problems. I will say that the Toyo's are slightly wider than my new Falken FK452's but with either tire you are good. I was actually thinking about having my guy correct the camber on the rear a little more since the Falken's arent as fat.

thanks for the input...
Lexbox, i am not looking for a tucked/slammed looked. i really like when there just o-1"gap only.
its sluggishness/performance am worried about.
Hameed, thanks for the input. i wish i had someone with a GS on 20s to testdrive around to know what it feels like.

You'll be fine with the size and offset. That is the exact specs of my old momos. But I did run with 245-35-20, although they look thin, along with my tein cs they did ride like oem but a little firmer.

The front tires did rub againt the liner only on full lock backing up to the left. I wouldn't get any larger tires except wider for the rears if you decided to get a staggered setup.

35 series is already out of spec, not sure if you'd want to move up to 40. As mentioned above, you would be golden with 245/35/20

Do you mind revealing which wheels? Or is it top secret?

the wheel is not a secret, its the entire finish of the car that should be the secret.....
since i always loved the Maya DTs but never could shed so much on them, my intention was to find something similar to them. here is the wheel in question....Euromax 942 20X8.5 with +35 offset in chrome.
shippable weight 36-38lbs.
BTW, would it make sense for 20" wheels to do better on a GS400 or 430 since they have more torque than a GS300?
http://euromaxwheel.com/euromax_942.php
more info/opinions would be appreciated,please...

In theory I would think the lag would be less noticeable on a GS400/430.
Those wheels look nice. I actually considered getting a similar look in the axis milanos. You can never go wrong with a clean 5 spoke design
