Talking Is it just me?

Is it just me or did we just get the biggest wave of new members in the past month or so I have seen so many new "my GS" threads recently, more than I have seen all together since becoming a member

Yes I feel you on this one. All the threads I have been replying to on the 2GS forum have been new members. I don't how many, too many to count

The 2GS has become much more affordable now so you will see an influx of younger people on the forum.

I'm new and love this site and don't see the big deal really. I do all my own work on the car and it's tasteful.(opinion of course) And I always try and help out a member with questions despite if they're new or old.....and what's everyones idea of "younger" anyway?! lol I'm 32 and am curious now! Anyway, I've wanted one of these cars for over 4 years now but buying the house was more important, and living/owning by myself with the $1600+ a month mortgage made it hard to own the GS......but now it's mine! his sit is much better than the Honda/Acura crap I used to be on, thats for sure. The people on here are much better quality with no drama. Glad to be here.

A lot of older folks will see the younger crowd with a bit of dismay. This happens a lot on forums for luxury cars. To many, they feel that the GS isn't as special anymore because it's so affordable for teenagers. If a 17 year old pulled up next to you in a GS, what would your impression be?

A lot of kids nowadays will buy their cars for status because they think they are 'baller'. They mod their GS in the same manner that they mod their previous 93 Honda Prelude. Take a look at the BMW forum. A lot of the older E36 guys left the table because the forum was soon flooded with high school kids that constantly talk trash on other cars because it didn't have the BMW badge, and they seize the opportunity to cherish their cars to an extend that the car becomes a sex symbol.

It's the same trend here too. Hardly do I see the older generation of CL'ers post anymore. They visit and read post from time to time, but their postings came to a halt. Out with the old, in with the new.

I just bought mine in August and was glad that it was "affordable". I really don't think 20k is too affordable for a college student/part time worker, but i make the sacrifices every day to be in the car i truly want. Yeah, it's a 2001 and the status symbol may be a little dated, but I think what car you drive still shows the kind of person you want to be looked at as. To me, the GS has a classic design (as all my cars have) and they can never truly be dated and that's why I chose vehicles as I do. Maybe I've gone a little off topic, but you should realize that the community we keep here, I feel, will remain to be guarded against those who "constantly talk trash on other cars because it didn't have the BMW [Lexus] badge." The moderating team here is great and won't let any of that happen, which is why those old members come around as much as they do, even if it is just a few minutes out of their week.

Thanks guys

There is no problem buying an affordable car. Hell, no one likes to pay more money! The problem lies in the attitude of the owners, specifically those who uses their car as bait for attention (not pointing anyone out). It just so happens that the attitude comes from teenagers who has yet to mature. The OGs simply do not want to be part of the same group. That's how the Honda guys received the bad stigma. For the most part, the GS guys have been great. Occasionally, you get a few bad batches, but
we have moderators to slap their wrist

GS's are cheap now and definitly affordable. New models are out and the 2nd gens are getting dated. If my poor *** can afford one on my income then they are "affordable" Thats what happens when cars get old. Also the used car market is in a slump. Thats the blessing of time and trends. When things are out of the trend prices drop. Want to be hoity toity and feel "high roller" get a new LS starting at 80K. Either way they are all cars. One day even 130k limo edition ls will be affordable. Its inevitable.
