Ritchie is the one who originally told me that it was the pump, and when that didn't fix it, said it was probably the driveshaft.

thanks for the input.

Yeah, but originally I thought it was a minor issue...something like the car's take off being so quick (high torque) is what caused it....Meaning I had a bad tire/ rim and that was causing a shake during accelartion..

Later is when I started to realize it was happening at a specific gear...

My car has 55k.

When I launch my car, and the tranny shifts from 2nd the 3rd gear...I get a significant vibration/shimmy...Seems to be coming from the Rear...

I thought it might have been the rear bearings..Got them changed...NO LUCK....

Chris May be able to chime in..since he has noticed it as well...

It ONLY vibrates when the tranny shifts at that gear..and no other time...
If I floor it on the highway...or above that gear...it still wont happen..

Only seems to happen from gear 2 to 3...

Im stumped

All suggestions are welcome!

thanks,

Avanti
Sound like you may need a new shim for the pinion gear
Looks like this:

I say take it to Lexus of Rockville Centre to have the car diagnosed for an accurate assessment.. It will cost you minimal now more so than later.. Sometimes, shudder can be caused due to gunk build up in the transmission as a result of tranny fluid breakdown.. Some members in Neloc experienced shudder, and had their tranny fluid exchange service completed with Amsoil Universal Synthetic.. No more shudder for them Good luck and give us feedback.

I've used AMSOIL UNIVERSAL SYNTHETIC TRANSMISSION FLUID for over 100,000 miles now. I got my car with 59000 miles and now I have 163,000, and the transmission is as strong as ever. I've done 2 complete changes in that time, and I have NO problems.

I also have a HAYDEN transmission cooler in line with the radiator. It is amazing how hot the cooler gets once the fluid warms up. I can feel the tubes while the engine idles, and if the fan is running, the fluid is much cooler going back to the transmission.

I shudder to think how hot the regular TYPE T-IV fluid gets when we are "getting on it" with no auxilliary cooler.

To be honest, Not familiar with that at all :-\
but wouldn't it cause it to happen in alll gears?
Because the problem is specifically happening when I switch from gear 1 to 2...or 2 to 3 (not sure, but only during 1 shift)

Thanks Shocker, you are always a help!!
I am most likely going to go to Lexus Of Queens though (So much closer)

I'll definitely update as soon as I am able to bring it in.

Automatic trannys use a set of gears called a compound planetary gearset. Each gear will engage the other and work as a unit. These diagrams will give you an idea of how the tranny functions

Heat due to friction can shear transmision parts. I see you like to put the pedal to the metal DJ.. Toyota Type IV fluid has a tendency to turn into mollasses in no time with pedal to the metal driving. Very important to check the condition of your tranny fluid on a regular basis..
