Default Repair Time- GS doing a SHIMMY wen going from 2nd to 3rd Gear

Hey guys,

I have had this problem for a while, I was told originally that it was the pump in my tranny..but it didn't solve the problem...So I was then told that it is possible my Driveshaft..but here is the description of the problem....

My car has 55k.

When I launch my car, and the tranny shifts from 2nd the 3rd gear...I get a significant vibration/shimmy...Seems to be coming from the Rear...

I thought it might have been the rear bearings..Got them changed...NO LUCK....

Chris May be able to chime in..since he has noticed it as well...

It ONLY vibrates when the tranny shifts at that gear..and no other time...
If I floor it on the highway...or above that gear...it still wont happen..

Only seems to happen from gear 2 to 3...

Im stumped

All suggestions are welcome!

thanks,

Avanti

i thought it was 1-2 shift but regardless...

it kinda feels like the whole back wiggles side to side like 3 inches each way... like sit in your chair that has good grip to ur clothes (not leather or wood seat) and try shaking ur but side to side like an inch each way thats kinda the feeling. its wierd

Does this happen during daily driving or only when you're at WOT?

Not sure what WOT is.

But it happens all the time. If I give a lot of gas...and the tranny has to shift quicker it happens with more force...If I do it slower...I still get the shimmy..noticeable but not as significant..

Your bearings for your axles. Get them checked out before they break off.

WOT is wide open throttle, aka pedal to the metal

I can't tell for sure, but it sounds like the torque converter is chattering. Could be the clutchpack.

I dont know about your car specifically, but I use to have sort of the same vibrating crap when I gave it more throttle. It was a combination of vibration/grinding?

Anyhow, I went out and got a bottle of LubeGard ATF Protection addictive (red bottle) and now my transmission shifts fine again.

You might want to get a second opinion from another shop though.

Not much to lose/ or any harm....right?

Lubegard has been around for at least 40 years. Ask any transmission rebuilding company if they use Lubegard, most likely they'll say yes. It's some of the most recommended stuff out there. I'm one of those who hate using addictive in my cars, especially the transmission but I gave it a shot because of the great reviews and I do not regret it one bit.

The lubegard contains synthetic esters, the basic ingredients found in synthetic fluid for superior protection. Before lubegard came out, sperm whale oil was the choice for tranny fluids because of the effectiveness it had. Since sperm whales were put on the endangered species list, lubegard came up with a formula to replicate the properties of the oil.

The bottle can only help. I have NEVER seen a transmission go out because of the lubegard. At worse, it does nothing. A lot of people have reported smoother shifting because the lubegard helps maintain lower temperature.

My tranny use to be jerky because of all the stop and go traffic I do. The fluid would oxidize because of the high temperature. Now the shifts are smooth, just the way it's suppose to be. It's a protection that works great for me. I've driven my car for months so far, and nothing is out of the ordinary.

I would have your car checked out before adding a bottle of lubegard. You need to identify the problem first. Even if you decide to get a bottle, make sure you get the RED bottle. If it turns out to be a clutch chatter or torque convertor shudder, Lubegard also make an addictive (tiny bottle) for it. Its very popular with the Ford truck guys who have the shudder. They threw it in and within 100 miles, everything was fine again.

Hm, Truth is hurting!

--It seems like a tranny issue to me...something specifically when the gear is shifting...that single gear...because all my other shifts are ok...

I think this problem merits a dealer visit...after I start working of course..

Why not try a drain and fill for your transmission? It helped me, though I think I may be low on fluid now...

The recommended drain and fill for a gs300 is 2.1 quarts no?

If that doesn't work, then try that lubegard stuff. I may pick up some of that stuff since I think it'll only help anyways.

Why don't you just take the car to the garage and let them diagnose the problem for you instead of guessing? Take Ritchie for a drive around the block and let him hear/feel the shudder.

Then you'll know if it's a DIY job or not and if not, you can get a price for repair right then and there.
