Default How to tell if the stock amp was bypassed or not?

Hey guys, my aftermarket radio went out in my car, I had a Sony radio and the wiring is all different. I tried touching one of the speaker wires with a 1.5 battery and I heard a popping noise. I don't know if that means if the amp was bypassed or not. But for some reason the stock sub still worked when the sony radio was working and I checked the wires and it appears that there are only 4 speaker wires hooked up so I don't know how exactly the sub was being powered or even receiving a signal. Any help, ideas?
