hei guys,
im in the process of getting a new car and the good news is that I'm gonna get a Lexus. Now, out of several Lexus' brand out there, it came down to two cars which is; GS400 and SC400. I like them both, but I can only pick one. How does SC maintenance compared to the GS, which car part's cost more. And what's the deal with the 10 xtra hp on the GS...'cus i thought they're all running the same engine..?? This is gonna be my daily drive and im not thinking about modifying her untill i finish school in about 2-3 yrs, so its gonna be strickly a stocker ride. I know that this is a GS's forum, that's why im putting the same thread over there as well. I looked around for some answer already on the forum, but so far i have no luck. I need to purchase this car before the year's end, so i need you input as soon as you can por favor with sugar on top.
thanks ahead,
Ray

Price? Mileage? Condition of the cars?
You can't go wrong with either choice. The GS400 and the SC400 both offer great rides, reliability, and power. It really comes down to how deep your pockets are, the condition the cars are in, and how long you plan on having the car (sounds like you'll be keeping her for several years).
If I were to choose, and both cars were in similar conditions with great deals on both, I would probably go with the GS400. More power, 4-door sedan, comfortable (not that the SC isn't). But because the 2GS is an older car, mods for it are becoming more readily available. So thinking long term, I'd hit the GS4. But honestly, the same can be said for the SC4. It really comes down to what you're looking for.
And for the extra power in the GS, I believe it's because the engines in the SC are tuned to produce less power. i.e., the SC430 and GS430 both have the same engines 3uz-fe but the GS430 is tuned to produce more power. Before the arrival of the IS350 and new models after that, the GS4XX was the fastest production Lexus available.

thanks for the informative input. My pockets are not deep enough, so that's why im looking for reliabilty and durability. These 2 cars offers these option, but when it come down to parts' cost, which ones is the least expensive..??
Well, as far as the price and the conditions of the car, they're about the same. The specs are; 1998 GS400 all options, no navy. system, $11.500, black on black w/ 94k miles. And the SC400 is a 2000, all options, white on tan, $9.995 w/ 92k miles. So there you go boss.

I like the SC series but the four doors make it sleeper.
