GS 300/400 Gas mileage?
#198
On my 98 GS400 which just turned 220k miles, I'm getting 25mpg mixed driving if I keep it to ~65-70 on the highway (w/no A/C). In winter with the heat on and driving slightly faster (~75mph) I get 22+mpg. This has been pretty consistant since I got the car at 156k.

Exclusive highway miles @ 78 mph on cruise control with A/C on, if I resist the temptation to stomp on the accelerator from time to time, I get 25 mpg pretty consistently.

I drive my '04 GS300 primarily on the highway with cruise. I average 27 MPG at 73 mph (75 gets me a ticket...I've had three this year..off to driving school to buy back points). The GS gets better gas mileage if you use the cruise control. The gas pedal is very touchy which is to say, responsive and the mileage falls off quickly if you make lots of little adjustments in speed while driving. Remember the rpm's are fairly high on this car at cruising speed. A lot of these little adjustments in speed occur rather unconsciously when driving manually ie without cruise and the mileage falls accordingly.
I have gotten up to 28.5 mpg when forced to drive 60 mph, which is a real compliment to the aerodynamic efficiency of this model.

My '04 GS300 gets a whopping 30 (THIRTY) mpg on my bimonthly trek from Seattle to Montana. The cruise is set at 70 (75 in Idaho and Montana) and I have driven well over 400 miles on a tank. Of course, that spectacular performance has to be weighed against the nearly continuous stop and go here in Seattle, where I get about 22 - 24 mpg.

The trip computer is pretty accurate for me. After one complete tank (the first tank, i wasn't paying attention), I drove 310 miles when the light came on and got ~20.5 mpg. I was actually surprised how low the mpg was, but it was dead-on with the trip computer.
I tried driving ~50 miles with "consumption" calculator turned on, and it's surprising how good the mileage is at when you're going 55 mph with cruise control on. I don't know how accurate that is though...
