GS 300/400 Gas mileage?
#17
I generally don't drive too hard. Most of my driving is 65% city driving and 35% highway. I've been averaging 22-23 mpg. Probably do to having under a thousand miles and I"m driving it slow.

It is funny when I had my 1990 LS400 I was getting on average 20 miles per gallon and now with 1999 GS300 I am getting the same mileage. I guess my Lexuses stuck on that mileage.

City I get about 18 highway 23
The most I ever gotten on the highway was from Elpaso texas to Phoenix Arizona. I got 26 mpg. I made it on one tank. That is with a/c running most of the time. On my trim to California I was gettig about 23 mpg. The city mileage sucks.

03' sport design, i use to average about 22 mpg with mix 50/50 city and highway driving. now with the stereo equipment in i average about 21 mpg for the last two fill ups. i guess not bad for a car this heavy.
i get lower mileage on the is300, average about 19-20 mpg on the is300.

I have a 1999 GS400 and a relatively light foot for a 21 year old. The absolute worst gas milage I've gotten to date was 21.5 MPG and that was 100% city driving with a heavy foot. The best I've gotten so far was 26.4 MPG which was non-stop highway driving at 65-70 MPH.

With my 2000 GS400, I've managed (hehe) as low as 15 in the city, but as high as 24 on a long highway cruise.

I still dont see how you guys are getting such good mileage....I get like 14-15 mpg in the city and like 22.5 at best on the highway. I dont have a heavy foot or anything....

I think the easiest way to compare how 'light' our foots are is to compare at what RPM our transmission (in automatic mode) usually shifts through the gears at.
Obviously the higher RPM is usually shifts at, the heavier your foot is.
For me, my GS400 usually shifts somewhere around 1.8-2.1k RPM from 1st to 2nd and then from 1.6-2.0k RPM from 2nd to 3rd. After that it pretty much stays in the range of 1.3-1.7k RPM
I always make sure my tires are inflated properly and my filters are fresh.
I usually try to 'time' lights to where if they're red, I slow down way before to where I don't have to use my brakes, I just coast and then wait for it to go green... although this only works sometimes. I also use cruise pretty much any time I'm going 40MPH and over for more than a minute or so straight.
I even go so far as to use 'snow' mode in bumper-to-bumper traffic and in parking garages so that I'm not doing a whole lot of unnecessary 1st to 2nd gear shifting.
Yeah I know it's obsessive but for some reason I like getting good gas milage and knowing I'm doing my part to make my car last FOREVER!
Every time I get an RX300 from the dealer I reset the average mile per gallon meter... which when I get the keys is usually showing around 17-18.5... I always seem get between 24 and 27 MPG. One time I went the extreme and drove that thing easier than even the oldest grandma would with 75% highway 25% city and I actually managed 30.1 MPG!
