Default Want OPINION on used car deal

I've browsed these forums for a while and just registered since I've begun my search for a used GS. I'm currently debating purchasing a white 1999 GS300. It has 94xxx miles, is in pristine condition, runs fine, clean Carfax, and is a one owner car who purchased an S-class Mercedes. I've got them down to $13K out the door with a 2-year/24,000 mile warranty. Is this a good buy? Should I wait to purchase one with lower miles? Given their resale, I really can't find one with under 60k miles that is within what I want to spend.

I'm going to be using it as a daily driver in South Florida and will probably run it till it dies on me. If regulary maintained, can I get over 200k miles with it? When can I expect to perform major maintence? Is there anything about these cars that I should know as far as engine/tranny/etc.?

My previous cars were a Honda S2000 and a Nissan Altima, both of which I had no problems with and got many miles out of. Toyota/Lexus is new to me.

Thanks for the help in advance.

First of all let me start out by saying Welcome to Club Lexus ... Ok so next thing is this car will definitely outlast your honda and altima if you properly maintain it, there are people on these boards with over 250k miles i believe and still running strong. Next, for 13k OTD I think you've got a pretty good deal there if the car is in pristine condition like you said ... As of right now you shouldn't need to worry about any major maintenance as long as the previous owner took the car for it's 90,000 mile service. I don't think you're going to need any other major service until you hit the 120,000 mile mark ... If you decide to get it you won't regret it, these are amazing cars ... But one thing to keep in mind, if you're not completely happy with it, just wait it out till you find the car you want ...

O and btw where in FL are you located?

A 99GS4 with 65K for only $13K is a smokin deal. Stoffius, that is a good price but you can find one with fewer miles, it just takes a lot of patience and homework. It took me a year to find mine. Don't get me wrong, that's not a lot of miles for these cars, but if you keep looking you will start to see which ones are better than others.

IIRC the timing belt and water pump are both due for replacement at 90K. Also get the ball joints replaced (do a search for some horror stories). Make sure that all of the door locks are working. I put 140K mostly problem free miles on my 99 before I traded up. I had the following non-scheduled repairs: throtle position sensor, door lock actuators, starter and hid headlights replaced due to condensation build up.

I'm hoping for the same or less with my 07

Thanks guys. I've been looking around and really want to stick to reputable dealerships where the price is unfortunetly a little higher. Certified Pre-Owned cars come with a 3-year/100k mile warranty (whichever comes first) from Lexus for example. However I would consider buying from a private seller where I know I could get a better deal.

Looking at the list above me, I see a lot of familiar one's. I would rather jump into a GS 400 or even 430 if I could. They don't appear to be that much more. I'm still going to consider the most recent offer but keep looking.

No Problem man, you're a little farther up north than me lol but about 85% of the cars on the list above are at Lexus Dealerships, not sure if they are CPO though ... Go to www.cars.com you'll find a bunch of cars all over the place, btw i wouldn't go with a private seller, stick with the dealerships ...

-O yea and if you have the opportunity jump into a 430, you will be glad you did
