sorry to hear about your problems but tire pressure should be measured when cold not hot from what I've been taught. Cliff has ruff racing 19"s on his GS430, dropped on Teins and he drives the car and has had no problems with his rims. I run tire pressure on my G35s 19 and 18 at 38psi when cold fyi. Pretty sure cliff runs at 40psi. Good luck getting reimbursed by the city.

 

36 psi warm seems a bit low for those profile tires. I ran 40 psi cold on my 20" Falkens and hit a few potholes with no damage.

 

I'm actually at 42psi and have had them on for a year with no issues whatsoever. Haven't even come close to bending them much less cracking them. Did you crack both fronts or one on each side? 36 is extremely low for the Tri State area and our heavy cars.

Sorry to hear about that though but personally I think that's crap when people start throwing price into the mix as all rims are capable of cracking. But to go and spend 4,000 on rims to drive daily in NYC just makes no sense to me. I've got a spare in the trunk and will not hesitate to order a new one if any one of these get a bend. Anyone in NELOC who's seen me drive knows that I've put them through a beating and them some so I will vouch for them whole heartedly.

 

I don't really think you should go after the city trying to fix your rims. YOU ran over the pot hole, it's not like it jumped out in front of you. You should learn the roads you drive. It's a risk you take when modifying your car.

Putting the blame on someone else isn't right when it's technically your fault for running over the pot hole.

Just another reason why slowing down, and keeping the road open in front of you is important when running big wheels.

 

I wasn't speeding, I was changing the lanes when it happened, 50 mph maybe. also where do my tax money go? hmmmmmm it is the city fault! .

 

Shouldn't you be having your stockies on during the Winter...Good luck in getting the city to pay...

Sorry to hear that NOS. Hopefully you cn get them repaired until the city cuts you a check? It must have been some major hole to do all of that damage? What about your insurance? Would they cover something like that?

No one said you were speeding. What I meant by slow down was to be more aware of the road. Slowing down, doesn't mean speeding, or not speeding rather, but more defensive driving.

Solution? Get new rims and swap the tires on to them, and then just watch for pot holes next time.

Sorry to hear, but sometimes it is better to cut your losses than trying to get the city to pay for it. Karma comes back in the worst ways...Pot holes happen all the time, and are everywhere, you can't expect the city to pour all the tax money into fixing all of them so you can drive comfortably without having to watch for pot holes.

Just be glad they don't have tolls all over the place. At least if they did, the roads would/better be smooth as glass.

 

yes cliff doesn't baby those rims at all, they been put through their paces and are still holding on.

i would think it would be a public works dept. take pictures of the whole. see it they have it marked as a hazard. you should get some help from them.

 

That's not always true. I've hit plenty of potholes and even a storm drain with my wheels and never had that happen to me. I have some cheap wheels I bought off eBay.

I have ruffs and have beat the crap out them really bad.
I bent one on the inside after hitting a major hole on the TP at like 105 and its STILL kicking.
