I am rebuilding my head with bigger valves and other stuff, but for the love of god I cannot remember the setting that the vvti cam goes. When you set it back on the camshaft and have the timming mark set, does the gear itself have to be shifted all the way to the left or the right?
I can take pictures with arrows and what not if that helps. Any help that anyone can give me I would much appreciate it.

Eh, did you open the VVTi cam gear? Tell me you didn't lol. There are those 5 little bolts on the VVTi cam gear. You are never supposed to remove any of those bolts. According to the service manual, if bolt is removed then the only option is to replace with a new pulley.
Anyways, if you didn't remove the bolts...then the pulley should be turned all the way to the right. Since the engine turns clockwise you want to orient the cam to the right.
