Question about 98-04 GS300 motors
Are all motors in the 98-04 models interchangeable?
I don't know if you guys remember my mechanic bending some of my valves a few months back, well its been a whole long ordeal for me, b/c not only were the valves bent, but my head was screwed up in the process.
We sent the head off to be machined, and when it came back, I stood there and watched him put the whole motor back together.
I watched him spin the crank over twice to see if timing was on, and indeed it was. Nothing hitting, everything spun smoothly. So he jumped in the car, and when he went to crank it, bang bang bang bang, the defninte sound of valve meeting piston.
So, instead of tearing down the motor again and starting over, he is going to just buy me another motor.
So back to the question, I have a 98 Gs300, can I put in a motor from the 00-04? I know those motors went by drive by wire, but would it still be a simple drop in? Or should i stick with a 98-99 motor?

Suggest you stick to the original product. Drive by wire (I would think) would require a different OBC/Electronic car computer brain.
I would actually target a lower mileage used motor (if he is not going to get you a new one) where the motor has been been abused / damaged (i.e. no rebuild, salvaged from a rear-crash totaled vehicle, etc)

Here in PR we have to go to Police dept. and go with a certified mech and a lot of papers about the precedence of the motor, (or any part of the body) and inscribed it to the records. Not an easy task.
