Strange plug under centre console
Anybody know what this aerial type connector is for, found it under the centre console in my gen2, seems to be OEM and goes towards the rear of the car?

Thanx for the replys, I sort of thought thats what it was, do you reckon the actual aerial is at the other end of the cable hidden somewhere like the satnav aerial
Have to go and see how I can use it with my phone if it is

All U.S. spec 95-00 LS400 cars have a phone antenna imprinted on the inside of the back window -- I don't know about other Lexus years or models or what the setup would be on Oz cars.
I use the imprinted rear window phone antenna with my old aftermarket Nokia CARK-91 phone kit but I do not know what frequencies the antenna supports. So far it has not mattered since our old phones support both analog and GSM. Since analog phone service is being withdrawn in the U.S. this year, I need to check on what frequencies the antenna supports since I suspect that our phones are kicking into analog mode when in the car kit's phone cradle.
Also on U.S. 95-00 LS400 is a mute pin under the center console near the antenna coax cable. On my 2000 LS, the mute pin is the front center pin in the six pin connector -- the audio system mutes automatically when a call is received or when I make a call either with a voice command or by using the phone's numeric keypad. (The connector is somewhat different on 95-97 cars but there is still a mute pin.) It is likely that other Lexus cars of the same vintage also have a mute pin under the console.
Eventually we will abandon our old GSM/analog phones and install phone kits of newer technology - perhaps Bluetooth - in our cars using the same power, mute, ground and speaker connections.
