Default 6 1/2 hrs to change control arm bushings? What?

can someone tell me if this is actually true? I finally recieved my Daizen control arm bushings, steering rack and swaybar. I checked out a couple shops and they tell me it will take 6.5hrs just for the control arms!
This of course will have to be re-evaluated for I am looking at about 10hrs total for all bushings . WOW. Not what I have thought. Thoughts anyone?

Depends on the mechanic. Most will do it in 4 hours or so. Believe me it's not a DIY job unless you got the right tools. Taking out the arms is easy. It's the pressing and installation of the bushings that's a pain in the butt.

find yourself a shop that knows what they are doing. this isn't a job if they are trying to learn how it's done, especially if it's your car.

One way to get them out is to air chisel the flange end so that the old bushing pushes through easier.

It's probably difficult to find shop that has experience doing Lexus bushings and has developed their own tricks to doing it quickly. They usually get faster after doing a few sets.

Keep in mind that Lexus doesn't replace their bushings, they replace the whole a-arm, so even service centers don't neccessarily have skills in doing this job.

In SoCal you have TMEngineering and in NorCal we have Exact Motorsports. Both shops have done tons of bushings. An added plus is we hand out 20% of labor, discount coupons to those who attend our BOS and EOS meets.

Good Luck finding a shop in Ill.

My friend's shop was able to start and finish the job within 3 hours, and that's including removing and installing all the arms!

Thanks for all the input guy's. Finding shops out in Rockford, IL is a gamble. There is not one that I can find as of yet. as as for the Dealership I would have to agree with RMMGS4 on this issue. I talked Minakee(spelling?) shop owner and he said he would do it for 65hr and that is the cheapest I found so far but no gaurentee that it is done in a short descent time either. I cant seem to find any sport shops in Rockford that I would even trust with my GS. If anyone live close and or around my area please let me know of one. I am not opposed to pating for labor but as long as I am not be ing taken for a scenic route ride.

The labor time seems right for a tech who is not a Jim Screechy. I would stick with this mechanic as long as the job is covered by a warranty. Heck, some will be suprised at the amount of time it takes to adjust the valves on 1uz & 3uz v8's. Hint: It is not a 2 hour job.
