Smoke taillights? Nobody seems to use these...are they illegal?
In all the pics I have seen here, nobody seems to use Altezza style taillights?
Are they tacky, and the only reason I like them, is because I'm tacky?
The taillights on my car were supposed to be JDM as advertised by the seller, but they're standard OEM style lights.
Everybody on CL likes the newer lights that are completely red except for the bottom part...
So what's the deal with these? Are they cheap and sucky?

But if I were to get these, I haven't found anything on the internet that would say that these would be illegal. In fact, I think some Mazda 3s have these style tails if I'm not mistaken.

Smoked lights are not Illegal unless they are so dark the brake light cannot be seen clearly when braking, or if the reverse light is not seen while reversing ...
People don't use them mainly because they don't like the looks, people think they look cheap or they "look like they belong on Hondas" ... I like lightly smoked tails, but on the OEM looking ones, I have to admit that these look like pretty cheap quality ...
But hey if you like them, buy them, It's YOUR car
