Help, TPS only showing 79% at WOT
Thought I saw a thread awhile ago that talked about calibrating your TB. Now I cant find it.
I was playing around with my OBD2 scantool and logged my TPS. Well for some reason it shows 13.7% at closed and 79.2% at WOT. I checked my cable to ensure it is fully opening the Throttle body, it is. I checked all sensors and adjusted the TPS (All I succeeded in doing was changing my idle).
I am at a loss, if anyone knows what to do to recalibrate the TPS, or remembers where that thread was, I could use the help.
Thanks
B

what do you mean?
The at idle numbers are good, but the WOT should always be 100%, what worries me is that when the throttle is full open the ecu thinks its only 79%, which would make for lean conditions with the AFR's

I see 100% from most ecu's I have tuned. Granted they are not lexus. But I find it hard to believe that they wouldnt allow the ecu to recognize more than 79%.

It baffled me at first too, but its just what ive observed in my years as a Lexus tech. Ive dyno'd and tuned hundreds of GM and Ford vehicles, and they are all different. In most GM products, you can actually see close to, if not exactly 100% TPS. But from what ive seen with Lexus, you wont see much more than what you are getting, and it varies from model to model. I looked up specs in the Toyota/Lexus TIS system, and there really isnt a spec that i could find for your year/model. It gave a spec for pedal position, and it was something like 69-92% is WOT. (those numbers arent accurate, im just recalling numbers). I will check what my car (98 GS400) shows on the Techstream scanner when i get a chance.

That is about right. When you installing a new TPS your reading should be around 12-13% fully close. Your TPS would never get to 5v, otherwise the ECU will freak out.

I would like to see some other members use an OBDII scantool on their car's and post the WOT value.
We use EvoScan to tune the factory mitsubishi Evo 8 and 9 ecu's all the time. Has anyone hacked the factory lexus ECU? Its driving me batty that i have to consider using a piggyback or full standalone when I turbo my GS.

Ok, Im having some TPS troubles too..although in a 96 GS300, it seems like I may get a better response here.
For some reason, my TPS has been giving me trouble. At first it was throwing a CEL for bad TPS, so I replaced it, then it threw a CEL for closed throttle malfunction. But I readjusted the TPS, and that went away. Now, every now and then, the CEL will turn on and my SAFC2 will read 0% throttle even though Im giving it throttle, and the transmission will jerk into every gear. Also, the CEL will come on randomly also, even if the throttle is reading correctly on the SAFC2.
Anyone have an suggestions? I need to get my codes read, but the guy at work that had the scan tool got fired..lol. Havent had time to make it out to autozone.
