Default What's your opinion on these new Flat Black paint jobs?

Ive been seeing alot of flat balck paint jobs lately. On street tuner challenge on speed tv two of the three cars that were made over were painted flat black. On MTV's Rob & Big Rob painted his SUV flat black, "murdered out" as he calls it, and at SEMA someone brought a Lexus ISF with a body kit that was flat black too. Does anyone think this will take off? I personaly am considering painting my 2nd Gen GS flat black with a carbon fiber hood and black rims with a deep chrome lip. My interior is already black. It's just a thought at this point. I'd rather look classy and flat black is far from classy. For me to actually do this would take alot more convincing. I want to see what you guys think about this. Keep in mind I have a GS300 and the reason I went with the 300 is because I want to do a 2JZ-GTE swap so I'm preformance minded. But at the same time i dont want a front bumper with an intercooler hanging out. I'd want it hidden behind the factory bumper if possible.

Not my cup of tea, it reminds me too much of primer.

I wouldn't paint it "flat" black - I'd use a "matte black" which has more consistency to the finish. The true "flat" black cars end up look lik they were painted with chalk.

I've seen some dope matte cars lately - Porshces and what not. I think it's a trend and will be gone before we know it. I'd steer away from it myself.

+1 for matte black. In my opinion you need to go all the way if you're going to try a unique paint like this. Definitely need some nice matching wheels to go with it, maybe even a bodykit.

the flat black reminds me of the batmobile. i think it looks cool on some cars like z's, sc's.. smaller cars.. dunno if it will look good on the GS.

flat black paint job is an overdone trend IMO.

as for the intercooler, you can paint it black.

Both Rob's SUV were pretty nice. If you do do it I would say don't do a chrome lip with the black face. Maybe an anodized black/smoke/gunmetal or whatever you call that color lip. Like how the euro guys are anodizing the lips on their rims.

haha, it's funny how Rob and Big stuff that mini Horse in the rear of their SUV.

you are in ft. lauderdale right? a hot trend changes almost as fast as the weather down there. sprays are pretty expensive so if the trend is gone next summer then you are rolling around with a really dated look.

keep it classy and you can't go wrong even in a trendy place like ft. liquerdale.
