Default Why HID retrofit?

Why do people retrofit their halogen lights when you can just buy a pair HID bowls for the GS or buy HID OEM housing off ebay cheaper (~$650) than the lexus dealership. Which is close to the same in buying 430 projectors and having the service done if you don't do it yourself.

I can guarantee you the OEM HID is not going to give you the same output as the LS430 projectors. Ask how I know

Most projectors setup gives better output than the OEM reflector.

No comparison between reflectors and projectors.

There is no reflector bowl that has the light output both distance and width as a projector does. There is somewhat of a cutoff line on my stock reflectors, but it is not as sharp and straight as the projectors produce.

Here is a great pic of the output that ls430 projectors put out

cutoff is not sharp. It looks like halogen as far as cutoff, except it's controlled so that you do not have glare.

LS430 projectors itself is about $300 a pair +/-$20. Look to spend around $300+ for labor unless the person doing it is generous. It's labor intensive, but it's worth every minute of it. When I did mine years ago, no one was retrofitting LS430s. I hacked up my headlights without guide, and I was fortunate it all worked out great. Since then, there has been a large gain of LS430 popularity

If I do the 430 retro which bulbs do I need to get? Will there be a loss in quality if I go with the ~$160 china brands?

Having just finished an LS430 retrofit, I can attest to the wide beam, nice cut off, and light output. These will light up 4 lanes of traffic on the highway. I've run the range of HIDs, starting with an HID kit in my halogen reflectors, to HID in those Ebay halo projectors, to the LS430 retrofit I have now.

I bought the LS430 projectors on ebay for $315 (free shipping). I sent my lights and projectors down to Advanced Automotive Concepts. I also bought a new set of ballasts and bulbs (you will need D2S bulbs) from them. Labor, Shipping, New bulbs/ballasts was under $600. Overall not an inexpensive venture, but well worth it if you want this kind of light performance AND care about your fellow motorists driving towards you.

There are definitely cheaper options. You can get RX projectors which can be had as cheap as $100 on ebay, or TSX projectors for around $150. Both offer great light output and pattern but not as good as the LS430.

Here are some quick pictures, but I plan on polishing the lenses and taking some real pics when it get's warmer.

(new wedge bulbs are on their way)

Your lights look tight. How did you clear out the turn signal?

You have to disassemble the headlight to take out the orange lens.
