Need your help with timing belt decision
I have a 98 GS400 with 120k miles on it. I'm having the timing belt replaced. The mechanic is trying to sell me on replacing the water pump at the same time. Do you think I need it?
Any help would be appreciated,
Simon

Its worth it to do it now even if you dont need it. If the water pump goes than you need to do all that work over again. Its standard practice to change the water pump with the timing belt on most cars now.

Yup, timing belt and water pump should be done at the same time. If you just needed to replace your water pump you would need to take off/loosen the timing belt anyway. It's the same labor basically. So just save yourself the time and money and do it in one shot.
