Bodyshop broke my Master Key!! (56k warning pics)
So my GS was in the bodyshop (which was a shop recommended by Lexus) for over a week. I missed my GS and it was finally done today. So I ecstatically went to go pick my car up, and it looked beautiful w/ resprayed front and rear bumpers and new chrome moldings.
A tech guy pulled my car forward, I checked to make sure nothing was damaged, checked mileage, etc, and I looked at the ignition...
and my key was broken in half with a missing transponder
!!
the two plastic pieces were dangling from a key chain the plastic hole where the smalls crew goes is busted, and the transponder missing. I didn't get mad initially for some reason...but I went inside, asked the lady what happened to my key, she called someone up, found the transponder underneath my seat, and she told me that it's fixable. Lady told me to wait, went back somewhere, and gave me my key back in kinda one piece. She told me she fixed it, assured me it won't fall apart, came back home, and it's messed up royally. There's a huge gap, and the key is crooked. And I can't believe they were going to just give me my car back as if nothing was wrong with it. The key wouldn't of have made me upset but this kind of business is just immoral.
Called and complained and was assured a phone call tomorrow.

sorry, just had to rant. btw, how much are they? They better replace the plastic thing or I'll be POed. There's also other issues but I won't even go there...

I was quoted $75 for a new shell and free cutting at Lexus.

You just need a new shell which includes a new blank key blade. 80.00 from the dealer, roughly half that from eBay. Then you just have to pay to have the new blade cut and transfer your remote/transponder into the new shell. I would have them pay for it, but it shouldn't be more than 100.00 all together... as a matter of fact, if you purchase it from one of the vendors here, I belive they will cut it for free.

I don't care if it's a poor design or not.
THE BODY SHOP DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME ABOUT IT UNTIL I CONFRONTED THEM.
Is there any way that they might have copied the key/transponder? My family has had a cars stolen from us before, and I'm paranoid about this kind of matter.
But good to know a vendor here cuts it. I'd hate to contribute to my local Lexus dealership anyways.
