Lets get this straight. I only read a FEW of the first posts about "$10K markups and stealership"
I work for a Reputable Toyota dealership. Salesman get 25% commission of the vehicles gross. So if there is a $10K markup, the salesman would make $2500. Correct? If thats true, i as a Salesman would be a MILLIONARE.
Unfortunatly, it ISNT like that. It depends on what car it is. Japanese vehicles have MAXIMUM $2-3profit because they bring in all the book value and sometimes even higher.
Domestics have about $3-5K profit because they sell back of book at auctions.
So for someone to say dealers are "stealers", guess what, we all have to make a living right? Just like if you get a Virus and best buy charges $75 just for a "pre" checkup. You can negotiate, but alot of people think car dealers are crooks but sorry buddy its not 1985. This is 2008 and people use KBB, research the internet so cars are NOT overpriced but are priced at "retail" market value because car dealerships are RETAIL NOT PRIVATE.'
Had to get that out...

no offense, but i did too work @ an toyota dealership and that i did went to go pick up the car @ the lexus dealership that's within internship "swap dealer deals" and the tag price on the car was originally 31.9k and as i worked with the GSM and Inventory Manager to see how much would i make out profit by checkin in the invoice on how much we took it in for and yeah there's always a little trick and dinks in the deal like.. oh yeah we be thinking OH MAN imma make 2500 but really with all the so called " Service and 30 inspection point inspection" the dealers put a puck up the @$$ and ending up with under a grand, so i knew how much we took it in for i told them that i'm willing to do a deal within that day if i can buy it a grand over the invoice and yeah i only some little somewhat back.. i did kinda exaggerate bout 10 k but its near 10k
