Looking forward to buying my first GS300 Lexus (Advice Needed)

You can definitely find a GS300 in your price range. I would suggest a 2002 limited edition with the burlwood interior which I know you can get in your price range. If it has around 90000 miles or close to it I would set aside some money for timing belt service, ball joints etc so you dont have to worry about it later. I just jumped on the GS300 band wagon in December and that's what I did.

Below is a semi parts list of what I got:
Toyota (6PK-1940) Multi Rib Belt
Toyota (13540-46030) Timing Belt Tensioner
Toyota (13505-46041) Timing Belt Idler
Toyota (13568-49036) Timing Belt
Toyota (16100-49876-83) Water Pump w/Housing
OEM Front Main Seal (90311-46001)
OEM Camshaft Seal (90311-40020) (x2)
SNK Tie rod end - Right side outer (SE-3761R)
SNK Tie rod end - Left side outer (SE-3761L)
Toyota (43340-39415) BALL JOINT
Toyota (43330-39535) BALL JOINT
In parts alone you are looking at around $750 retail I'm sure they can be sourced cheaper on ebay etc. As far as labor is concerned, a couple of friends and I do most of the work. I guess if you don't do it then I would suggest you take the list above and have either Lexus or your mechanic give you an estimate on it. I believe Lexus charges $1300 to $1400 just for the timing belt job.

Good Luck. check craigslist. They usually have decent rides for lower under 17K. There is a 98 GS400 (V8) with 87K for sale here in Austin for under 11K. I don't know the seller, but saw it and trying to give you an idea. Can't go wrong with a GS. Having the service history helps too.
Also if you want Navi, go aftermarket. Pioneer makes a nice one. AVIC-D3. Good Luck.

Curly2004: I would suggest you go and test drive a GS300 AND a GS400/430 and see which one you like more ... I test drove both before I made my decision and I HAD to go with the V8, the 300 was just too slow for me and just didn't feel right. The first time i drove the 430 I knew it was the one and I bought it the very same day ...
