Default Changing the wood on steering to birds eye maple

Hey guys I was wondering if there was a way to change the color of the wood on the steering wheel to birds eye maple. I have a Platinum GS and I have a wood wheel coming my way, but want the wood to match. I know I could get it done at american stitches, but wanted to know if there was a way to maybe strip it down and re-stain the wood. Does anyone with a Platinum GS ever change to wood wheel? Anyone have pics of it? Any info would be good thanks!

Default Platinum GS?

The bird's eye maple is a hard to find wood piece, even in shift *****? The only way to get a true match would be through a dealer I guess? I have yet to see a wood steering wheel in that wood color? Let me know if you get lucky?

Thanks Wringo...I think I might try finding a woodwork place around here in NYC and see if they can refinish it for me in the lighter color.
