Default HELP PLEASE! Car didnt move when I gave it gas, uh oh!

This morning when I was leaving my house for work, something strange happened. I put the car in reverse and backed out of my driveway. Mind you, I just let idle speed take me out so I dont touch the pedal when doing this. Next, I put the car in drive and hit the gas but nothing happened! I pressed it more than usual and the car slowly started climbing up my street. I put it in 2nd gear and finally it caught and off I went.

It acted fine after that the whole way to work. I stopped at several stop lights and it took off fine from a stop. I havnt drove it since so I dont know what to expect next time. I have never had any problems with either of my gs's, the 400 or my 430.This is a very sad day!

What could this be? Transmission? Has anyone else experienced this? Please help me. Thanks bro's!

this will happen when tranny fluid is low hope that is the problem. Check the dipstick for fluid level with ENGINE RUNNING. dipstick is located on right side of engine bay when u face the car.

Warm up the car and shift from P to R to N to D a couple of times to get the transmission fluid circulating. Try driving it around for at least 10 minutes to get the temperature up. Once it's up there, take out the tranny dipstick and see where the level is at. It should be in the HOT region.

you failed to mention if the engine rpm stayed low when you pressed the gas or whether the transmission failed to engage and was slipping.

Make sure the engine is idling when you check the fluid level. When the engine is off, the oil pump in the transmission stop and the fluid drops back down to the pan.

Quick update for future reference. What happened was when I pressed the accelerator the rpm's would climb but I wouldnt go anywhere and when it finally did catch I could definitely feel it. It only happened that one time and never again.

Well, I checked the tranny fluid today and it was real low so hopefully that was the culprit. I went to pb's but they dont carry the type of fluid the lexus's require. Im plannning on going to toyota tomorrow. Thanks for yalls help!

BTW the guy at pep boys said that its best to drain 2 quarts and put in all new fluid but I think that'll have to wait.

I had the exact same thing happen. It would happen more when the car was cold. I got my tranny flushed and new fluid. Has been runing like a champ since.

And when you check the fluid, put it in neutral and engage the e-brake... on level ground.
