I do not see how the belt could be too tight.

Did you change the spring loaded (hydrualic I think) tensioner?

It should be easy to see if your old belt and new belt are the same size.

When I did my 2uz motor at 95K the belt had not stretched at all.

How about do a DIY while your in there again.. that would be great..

X2 this is exactly what happened with mine. I didnt reset the tensioner, just stretched the belt on. It drove me nuts till I fixed it.

What Do You Mean By reset The Tensioner? I Pulled My Tensioner Off And Put It Back On After New Belt Was Lined Up.

There should be a pin that gets pushed in and locked with a clip till the belt is on, then pulled to set tension.

Steve,

I am asuming that you used the two bolts that connect the tensioner onto the "block" to loosen the tensioner then you just alternated tightening the left then the right then the left.. I did this on my truck and it was fine.

The service manual does state to compress it in a vice and put a pin in it... then pull the pin when you get everything where you want it.

Could it be that the tensioner has a ratchet effect as the belt gets loose.. I do not know.

I Did Just Tighten The Tensioner Back Up With The Two Bolts Back And Forth. I Wouldnt Think That The Other Way Would Change The Tension Of The Belt From What I Did. I Have Done This Same Method On 3 Gs300's And Everything Was Fine. The Sound That I Hear I Can Also Feel In The Gas Pedal , Steering Wheel And Gear Shifter !!! I Dunno

The manual is pretty clear about how to re compress the tensioner.. notice I did not say reset.. I do not think that it has a ratching effect. I think that it is spring loaded with some hydraulic damping. I did my 2UZ just the way I described going left.. right until it was tight.

I know your frustrated with this. This sounds like something that would happen to me..

Well Im Going To Tear Motor Back Down This Evening for The Forth Time And Replace The (new) Lexus Idler And Tensioner I First Bought From Lexus With The (new) Lexus Idler And Tensioner I Got Saturday From Lexus ! I Will Compress The Tensioner As Noted Above And See What Happens. The Water Pump Has Already Been Swapped Out With No Improvment. I Hope This Solves The Noise And Growl Problem !!
