Default Different Motor Oil

What motor oils other than Mobil 5W-30 have you tried in your 2GS? I'd like to know b/c I'm contemplating switching to a thicker oil since I'm at 130k.

I only use what the dealer gives me but I know there is a Royal Purple brand that is way thicker and supposedly better for higher mileage cars. I have yet to try it. Maybe once the free oil changes run out I'll give it a shot.

No need for thicker oil. Just run what you've been running. If you're not leaking oil or burning oil, then just leave it the way it is.

I've ran the following:
5w-30
5w-20
0w-30
0w-20

and then mix of in between. No problems whatsoever. I decide on oil based on my driving condition.

I've been using the 5w30 and am losing oil due to blow-by as noted by the stealership. They said it's due to normal engine wear. I've done some searching and have read that using a thicker oil such as 10w30 or 10w40 might help slow the consumption. Can anyone atest to this?

I use 5-30 in winter and 1-40 in summer.
It is always 100 degrees here in summer!

that depends on what exactly is wrong, whether or not your actually burning any oil due to rings or anything else. How many miles are on your car?

130k. Not sure what else the problem could be. I haven't seen any leaks. Dealership sais it's blow by.

i'm using mobil 1 5-30w 15kmile oil, i change it every 6 months though, which is about 4k miles. i'm going to try german castrol synthetic soon, 0-30w. it says zero, but everyone has said despite the numbers, its more like a 5-40w. can anyone confirm? i'm worried about having problems blowby.

Thats what my dealer put in my car when I had my 150k service. Before that I was using valvoline durablend. No problems so far. I guess I will stick with Castrol since dealr recomends it.
