Polishing up wheels/ Car wash auto salons??'s
I just took my car to another one of those autowash places and once again my rims did not come out very clean. They claim they need to be polished professionally.
Would you guys pay 20$ a rim for this service, do it yourself with never dull taking about 4 hours, or what???
The rims were just put back on about a month ago for the warm season and were still really dirty from last year. They just have a dark colored look probably from brake dust and the sort and will usually get pretty clean from just a hard scrubbing. The autowash place won't get them as clean as I would prefer. My thinking is that after they are 100% clean if I regularly take the car back to the place at least weekly they will remain clean with just their light washing that the autowash does. This is my 4th summer season to have these chrome 3 piece rims on my car, and they are lowenhart ld1's if this info helps anyone.
I am used to detailing my car myself the way I want it done and now that I have moved to a neighborhood on the water they won't allow me to wash my car in the properties parking lot like I always did at prior residences. Am I just expecting to much from these autowash spa places to get the car and rims as clean as I am used to????
BTW this place has a vip service that you pay 40/ month for unlimited inside and outside washes (which is what i signed up for). After only 2 trips I have since stopped letting them clean the inside because when I do it myself it is actually cleaner and better smelling than when they do it with their all surface windex like solutions and dirty rags... I know that this car wash is in the business of cleaning cars at record speeds but should they not return the car actually clean??? In my opinion the outside of the car itself is usually only 85-90% clean and the rims are usually only 60% clean after leaving. If I was a taxi or rental car place I would be satisfied with the job or maybe if I just had a stock car, but after 5 years of having a really clean car I would prefer it to be this clean.

As the old saying goes, if you want something done right...you gotta do it yourself.
Depending on what finish your rims are (im assuming its chrome by your avatar), get some chrome polish compound (around $20) at your local autostore and do it yourself.
