Problem on my 04 GS300 Auto Tilt & Telescope
Hey guys,
On hot and sunny days my auto tilt & telescope sweaks when I stick my key into the ignition, sounds like it's lack of oil, can I fix this myself? please advice. Thank you.

i know there is a thread about people having issues with the "up and down" or or telescoping motor not functioning properly and how they took it apart, cleaned and regreased or reoiled it

I hear that. I just bought mine back in October and now that we're getting some 75 degree days, I'll go out to my car and fire it up, and the steering wheel bows down sounding like a wounded cow.
I haven't found any threads about how to correct it though... anyone find a link?

I had that problem on mine. Take off the bottom of the steering column. If you turn the wheel to the left and right, you will see two hidden screws. Get a tube of white litium greese. clean off all the gears and re-greese them. There is also a dust cover that the shaft goes in to. Take off that cover and greese that too. As long as the motors still work, that should make them quiet again. I did mine over a year ago and has been perfect ever since.
If the motors are shot, you can turn the feature off in the CBEST settings so that it only adjusts with the joystick. I'm pretty sure you can do that after 2000 or so.

Yes, it is a CBEST setting for the 2000+ years (maybe 99 too??). Turn "OFF" the tilt and away feature. The joystick still will operate, just not every time you put in the key. The dealer has to do it with the special program tool.

That is what I miss about my 1st gen gs there is a button next to the joystick where you can turn it on and off and you you could also raise and lower your wiper blades by turning the switch instead of pushing them down by hand like on the 2nd gen gs

I just brought an 04 gs300 two days ago. I don't have the problem, but after I read this thread and went home, the squeak did happen when the steering wheel lowered. Didn't do it after that! lol
