Okay, recently in the past week I've been experiencing this strange buzzing noise coming from my engine bay. It's loud and audible from the cabin and it is only audible when I'm in gear. It's loudest when I'm in reverse, no noise in neutral or in park, and a lower but still audible from cabin buzz in any of the drive gears. What can this be? I've tried to pinpoint it with a friend holding on the brakes and shifting gears and me listening with the hood opened but I can't pinpoint it, it seems to be coming from near the firewall. Could it be something messed up in my tranny? My idle is still normal and stable and car shifts fine while driving but I can't explain the loud buzzing I'm getting especially when the car is in reverse!1!

Are you sure it isn't rpm related. For instance, you notice when you put the car in gear at "idle" the rpms lower. See if you put the car in reverse if the rpm's fall to the same level as when you put the car in drive. Most likely they will but it's a long shot. Secondly, put the car in reverse and hold your foot on the brake, with the other foot give the car a little gas to raise the rpm's up, see if the noise changes, if so it may just be something under the hood resonating. Long shot but give it a try.

okay I just drove the car and before I shut it off I put on my emergency brakes and took a closer look under the hood as I changed the gears. Apparently the buzzing noise was coming from my SRT intake, the metal clamp on the air filter is pinging against the metal heatshield -_-. And the intake piping only vibrate enough to cause an audible buzzing noise when I'm in gear. Thanks for the responses guys, I love CL! time to do mod my intake setup a bit.

I had the problem with the heatshield on the Y pipe rattling like crazy. It ws rattlin so bad I was embarrassed driving around cuz it literally sounds like a ***** car everytime I gas it. I went out and bought 2 hose clamps and used both to clamp down the heatshield around the exhaust now its as quiet as a sleeping baby. Only thing roaring is my srt.
If your resonating noise is coming from the engine bay. It may be the heatshield around the stock intake piping near the throttle body. I had the same issue with my stock intake. The heatshield tends to get rusted and break so I think I just ductaped it together until I switched out the whole system with the SRT.
