My rpm was around 3500 rpm at 80 mph on gear 5, is that normal ?

Try this test to see if your Torque Converter Clutch is engaging and disengaging. When at a steady cruise around 60-70, in 5th gear. With your foot steady on the gas pedal, Lightly tap the brake pedal to see your RPMS increase by maybe 200-300rpm, this is normal because the TCC will actually apply help decrease rpms when driving at a moderate highway speed with no abrupt acceleration or deceleration. DO NOT apply the brakes so hard it will cause the vehicle to deccelerate.

i couldn't even hit 80 on the drive home the last few days, but i did manage to hit 80 on the way to work this morning and my 99gs400 w/ 20's (someone said that the tire size will affect the rpm's) (I wonder if this will recalculate somehow in smarter cars???) and at 80 mph my rpm's were at like 2.7.
does anyone know what the optimal mpg rpm would be in top gear set on cruise? i have always wondered if at 75 mph at 2.45 rpm is actually that much better than say 80 mph at 2.7 rpm??
