Default Help - My GS is FLOODED

hi guys,
i have really bad news. of course it's bad for me.

due to the heavy rain in new orleans area last saturday, my car is flooded.

i didn't even try to start on the engine yet, just waiting for drying all up.

i think automatic / electric seat is gone,
remote control doesn't work
power door doesn't work

here is the QUESTION.

I should go the auto shop where the insurance company choose or lexus dealer?
choice of those makes different service of quality?

What should I do guys?

Would that not be a total out?

What part of new orleans were you in?

I never drive my car around when it's raining in New Orleans East. Its just asking for a flood.

man im sorry to hear that...

the insurance co. wont total it out until they see how much it will cost to fix it.. if it cost more to fix the vehicle than what the vehicle is worth, they will definitely total it. (someone correct me if Im wrong)

if i had a choice to take it to the dealer, i would take it there.

other than that, the shops your insurance co. recommends will definitely warranty there work.

what ever route you go, hope it works out for you.

If you are hoping for a Total out go to the the dealer for sure. They are much more likely to put the estimate at a real high dollar amount right away than a independent shop that needs the work and may low ball just to get the job.

If you want to keep the car and DON'T have your own trusted shop to do the work it may still be best to go to the Dealer.

So put simply - I vote dealer.

I would not want a flood car repaired, it'll never be the same.

I'll just take a big fat check, thanks.

Depends how much your car is worth and how much damage the car sustained man.. Hopefully the Lexus's arent' built like MB's where a lot of critical control units and signal acquisition modules are hidden UNDER the seats so that when flooding does happen it takes out almost everything under the car..

if you want it totaled. Take it to the Dealer so they can quote HIGH and it can be totaled. Independent shop quote wont be as high as the Lexus dealer. Id want it totaled.

DO NOT keep a flooded car. Its ASKING for a headache.... or better yet...a major migraine

flooded cars can be repaired to look 100% new, but expect rust, mold, and other issues down the line if not already. like everyone said lose out and take the insurance check instead. because if you decide not to keep the car, carfax will have the report your vehicle was in a flood and buyers will shy off from purchasing it from you.

FLOODED OUT! 2 of the worst words you can say about a car, especially a luxury car.
if they give you the choice go for the total loss option. don't think twice. work with your local dealer you can almost guarantee that the dealer will quote it very high!

new orleans already has a bad reputation for flooded used cars with Katrina.
so, if you rebuild it you can pretty much guarantee that its yours for ever!

good luck!

Just start the car and let it totally mess up and take it to the dealer. =)

Good luck with your car man. Keep us posted.

Today, I towed the car to the lexus dealer of New Orleans.

Seems like I should totaled out if I have choice.

I'll see how dealer is going to estimate the damage.

Should I visit the dealer and tell what's wrong with the car or just stay in home and wait their call?

this is unique experience, but never wanna get this experience again honestly.

Guys,, Keep watching weather channel and if heavy rain is coming, MOVE your car.

I'll keep posting how it works out

You don't have to take your car to where insurance tell you to. You have the right to take it to wherever you want as long as it's a licensed facility.
