Default 30+ piece wood dash kit?'s

How many people have these 30 + piece aftermarket wood dash kits, and are you guys satisfied/ happy??

I have been thinking about getting one of those 100$ kits off of ebay and putting it in my car. I would most likely not use all of the pieces but I do want to fill in some of the flat black pieces around the nak stereo and ac controls as well as the ash tray and cup holder parts, maybe even around the gauge clusters.

I have seen lots of pics of these kits but i saw a gs in a mall parking lot the other day and it looked like the whole thing was just filled with fake wood inserts everywhere they could possibly fit em.

do you guys think a little of this wood would be a nice added touch or just a silly aftermarket addition that would detract from the original touches of wood placed throughout?? BTW i gots the wood shifter stock.

well i already have the other wood already factory installed in various places which would be a lot more money to replace all of that then i was willing to spend on this little project. but thanks for the suggestion.

apparently there are people who are tired at looking at their flat black center dash, and i guess i am one of these people. and i'm pretty sure your honda odyssey came stock with some wood grain or plastic space ship looking silver or fake carbon fiber dash pieces... so if your wife and kids don't mind i bet you could put some wood pieces in there, let me see if i can find you a link for a wood kit for your odyssey... look no further--- http://www.wooddashexperts.com/custo...e.php?cat=8382

Don't do it. I speak from experience. It will look good for a few months and then you will spend many more months trying to remove it.

well i guess i should say thank you kaygee for saving me not only the 200$ but also the pain and headache of being displeased later on down the road and stuck with an ugly fake wood interior. i read all those forums and would like to quote a few of those peeps in that "i wish they sold a piece or two only instead of the whole kit, and that i wish the piece or two would match the factory wood, and that i never even considered the written text underneath all the factory buttons that you wouldn't be able to read it you put stick-ons on top of it."

i guess i've reached a verdict...

No wife, no kids, just a toy for hauling my toys. Has a silver-ish band of plastic across the dash, not really noticeable with the grey dashboard.

My point was that some of the wood kits get a little carried away.

Like I say:
"Wood kits are like religion: both are a fine thing in moderation."

I agree with your last sentence. That is very true!

hahaha im going through the same bs right now. previous owner had the 187 piece kit and i put up with it for about a year... then it got really really faded/ugly... so i just pulled all of it off... such a PITA alone but now i have all the glue on my dash.... what did you use to remove this mess? i used goof-off on a sample piece but it also took off the printed part. (the car image next to the dimmer) So now im afraid to wipe out the glue on the rest of the car... ive been driving around for months with sticky glue all over the place!!! help me out..........

I did the same thing and basically wiped off all of the printed words. There is something called 3m adhesive remover that shouldn't be as abrasive.

I have had a wood kit in my 92 Cressida for about 7 or 8 years now and I really like it. It is true that the pieces that are most exposed to the sun get faded and the ones in high traffic areas (door handles, switches) tend to peel or lift but other pieces around the dash still look very nice. UV is the real killer for the stick on kits. I am in Canada and my car does not have a sunroof. I also have tinted windows so it is not exposed to UV as much as sunbelt areas.

I have often contemplated buying a wood kit for my GS4 also. I am also thinking of just putting a few pieces not the complete kit. I would like to get one that has the silk screening for labels on the dash.

bwahahaha.. good one.

In my own failed attempt - bought a $140(thought if costs more must be better quality) kit for my pathfinder and after putting 5 pieces on i decided to go grab a Guiness and start the removal process.

with the exception of those black wood pieces from Japan, wood kits on a Lexus look CHEAP. Also they fade, peel off and that glue is a b*tch to clean off.

IF you want something different in your dash, try that company that Mr.BlueLex used - patterntek or something...look up in his recent posts. They did have some unique patterns for dash pieces....
