What a difference cleaning the MAF and air filter makes...
After putting off cleaning my MAF and air filter, I finally did it a few weeks ago. I've noticed that during my last 3 fill ups, I went from around 310 miles from a full tank previously now to 360 miles off a full tank. That difference of 50 miles is a lot! My daily commute from home to school to work is about 23 miles roundtrip. That means I can go 2 more days before filling up! With gas at ~$4.25 here, I'm glad I had a noticeable improvement. I just thought I'd remind everyone to check their MAF, air filter, and tire pressure if you haven't done so. You'll thank yourself. It'll make a world of difference.
P.S. I drive a 98' GS400 with stock 18" 07' wheels.
just use some throttle body cleaner, pop the straw in, and spray at the 2 wire filaments, but don't let the straw touch them. air dry after a few minutes and install. enjoy

I wouldn't use the tb cleaner on the maf sensor cuz it's really sensitive; instead use CRC maf sensor cleaner, specifically made to clean this part out.

nowadays, throttle body cleaner is the same chemical composition as maf sensor cleaner, and also the same as brake cleaner. this is due to the environmental regulations. certain cleaners were chlorinated while some weren't, so that made good sense to go with a chemical that was stated for a specific purpose. chlorinated cleaners were toxic. today, the chemicals are non-chlorinated and the chemical make up is similar, if not the same.
i've been doing this preventive maintenance on my MAF twice a year since day 1, and my car is close to 180k miles.

True, general composition of most automotive cleaners such as carb cleaner and brake cleaner have similar compositions. Their strengths and toxicity were generally due to the fact that they were chlorinate. Federal regulation heavily restricts the use of toxic chemicals.

Reason: typo. >_<;
another good thing to do also is to clean your trottle body... alot of gunk gets built up near or around the butterfly. I just got done doing that a few weeks ago and at WOT the car seems to respond a lot more quicker and as for gas mileage it seemed to make somewhat of a differnce.
is this what you guys are talking about cleaning (for MAF)
If so what do you need to clean? I'm not quite sure i understand..
You need to clean the MAF meter. Look at the bullet-looking tube. There should be an inlet hole at the end of it. Gently spray the cleaner into the MAF.

still not sure
do i unplug it and spray the cleaner inside? not sure what you mean by 'bullet'looking tube'.
