Default non hid to oem hid

Guys this has been beat up alot but I'm new. Bottom line: I have a 2001 gs3 non-hid and I want the HID (I'm reading the kits -like mibilehid's are illegal in most states AND they give off crazy glare) Is this true?

If it is true to either one why do it? So the other options are conversions which sound way too in depth OR buy the whole OEM setup from a gs with hid.

I found this on Ebay and looks good but still need to buy the harnes, bulbs and ballasts correct? anyways your input for the best solution.thanks guys

HID kits are illegal and give off major glare if they're put into halogen headlights. You can open up your headlights and swap in some OEM HID bowls to get the same effect. Then an HID kit will function like factory without glare.

I just happen to have some for sale.

Did you have to bake them to pull out and if so how easy is it to reseal?
Also how much for them? and why don't you use them anymore? Thanks

You have to bake the headlights to soften the glue in order to pull apart the lens. Resealing is easy. In most cases, reheating the glue and then attaching the lens is enough. But when it's not, you can use silicone. He doesn't need them anymore because he has LS430 retrofit.

Yup. As long as you're using D2R bulbs.

Definitely get a harness made for the ballasts. You dont want to use the 9006 as a source of power. They weren't made to handle the demands of the ballast at start-up.

Autoleveling is more of a perk than a necessity. You'll be able to go on without it. The dealer does not sell the bowls separately because they dont want people opening up their headlights and messing things up, especially seeing how most people do not have the skills needed.

I hate bringing these old posts back to life months later...lol.

my question: if you have a non hid gs300, and purchase the hid headlights minus bulbs ballast etc, will this work with an hid kit (from xenondepot for example)?

Probably not. Correct me if I'm wrong. Most kits have i.e. 9006 lights. You'd need a set of D2R, a ballast (probably any), a wireing harness that connects to the 9006 powersocket for the switch/and battery.

I had to get a D2R light, D2R/S adapter from light to ballast, cut that adapter wires into that ballast, and the ballast was made for a 9006 socket but I have a harness on it. Otherwise the headlights were completely interchanagle. Feed free to ask me any questions.
