Default How hot does your car run?

I just had my 90K service done by the dealer, changing out both the water pump and timing belt. However, I noticed that my temp gauge needle sits just above the half way mark where as before, I think it used to go no higher than a third way up. My mileage also has dropped off, going from ave. 20mpg to 18mpg. Does this reading seem normal and if not, do you guys think that the higher running temp is affecting my mileage. I'm not 100% about my previous temp gauge reading so I thought I'd see what you guys thought before I called the service rep.

Not sure. I'll have to look at my invoice for parts. Do you know if a thermostat change is part of the 90K?

On mine, it sits a tick about the halfway mark, once it's warmed up. Yep, they probably did change your thermostat -which may have been stuck in the open position. I would have thought though, that your mileage would actually improve with the normal operating temp where it's supposed to be and the car running in closed loop position.... On another Lexus I had, the dealership did change my t-stat w/the 90K service. Your car's fine, though, I don't think you have anything to worry about. BTW, did you notice any change since you did the 90K service, like the engine running smoother or anything like that?

Mine is about half-way.

If you noticed this problem AFTER the 90k service, then bring back the car for them to check it out. It might be something simple as having air in the cooling system.

mine sits just under half way. Been there the whole time I've had this one. My last sat in the same place too! If they didn't you may need to have the system flushed....especially with the summer coming on quickly!

Stock thermostat/radiator cap, 1/2 way, maybe higher.
I now have the TRD thermostat and TRD radiator cap and I notice it is now below the 1/2 way point.

It's funny you say that because I did take it back due to some weird gurgling sounds. The tech knew that he needed to rebleed the system again. Anyway, as I was driving away, I still heard the noise so they really hadn't addressed the problem. I should have turned around and went back but I had to get back to work. Does having air in the system affect mileage/performance?
