Sounds like a pulley to me. Which one is a tough call. It could be dirt and grime and a good high pressure engine cleaning might cure it. The wife's RX made a similar sound, but she also had a long steady squeal/chirp on cold starts then it slowly settled to the sound you have. It was the alternator bearing.

There was evidence of the previous owner having a system in the vehicle, so it would be an alternator bearing for all I know. I'm going to take it in on tuesday. Unfortunately, it's a 45 dollar gas trip to Lexus and back, so I'm going to an import specialist shop that has worked on 3 of my other cars when I couldn't fix it or didn't know. The best part is the shop is on my road and could push the car there if necessary lol. I liked being able to drop the car off and walk 4/10th of a mile home. Walk to go pick it up when its done..

That was an easy fix, glad to hear it wasn't what I was thinking. It's not too often one is happy to be wrong.

I appriciate that. Thank you and also thank you to everyone else who chimed in except for my car who's chiming was the cause of this thread. It's Lexus quiet again and I'm happy.

I will have to look at which kind it is. The shop just changed it out. It was 60 for the belt and then they charged me 20 labor lol. They used to work on my old Audi so they know me. I'm going to have them do the ball joints and tie rods soon too. I've changed every fluid on the vehicle, timing belt/water pump, etc. I still need front rotors. It's almost mint...lol.

it's 25$ for a gatorback and takes less then 5mins to change and that 5mins includes pullin the key out of my pocket, openin the door, pullin the hood open, placing my break bar with a 14mm socket on the tension pully, push it pull off the old belt slide on the new belt........ hopefully they gave u a dealer belt for $60. $80? then they need to know you alittle better....
