Need Help finding Gen 1 Nav Update Disc
I recently purchased a used 2000 Lexus GS400 with the factory navigation. I was disappointed to discover that the dealer does not sell the update disc. I was told the last update was in 2005. Does anyone out there have the update disc.

Jack, 2000 does not have an update disk - it has a hard drive. You can get one from one of our CL vendor sponsors with a 10 or 15% discount but the update won't be past 2005

Wow... the picture looks like a 2.5 laptop hard drive in some sort of hard drive caddy. Has anyone been successfully putting in a larger drive with the image ripped from the current nav dvd?

No. It's totally different hardware and software on the 01+ DVD version.

So it would appear 1st Gen Nav owners are left out in the cold... Will the climate control from a non navigation gs fit. I am considering ditching the factory Nav in place of a Pioneer Double Din AVIC-Z1. The down side to that would loosing my trip computer but, I would have an ipod connection and integrated bluetooth. Has anyone tried this?
Alternatively, if i removed the NAV ecu AND replaced it with a 2nd generation would it plug into the existing first gen harness.

I know you can "get" the update for the DVD nav. But I would really like to copy someone's '03 update for the gen 1 nav. I'm sure using a 7200 RPM hd wouldn't hurt

Yes you can put in the non nav climate control in along with a double din radio faceplate kit. If you search you should be able to find some people that have done it. People have also upgraded to the newere 01+ navigation...but that is far more work changing out the wiring harness.
I know if my 01 nav ever fails I will be going aftermarket unless i find a cheap replacement.

the 2nd gen nav CAN be installed but its not worth it. cheaper to buy a oem climate control and a aftermarket headunit. you would know all this if you had searched....i personally have talked bout this like 20 times in last year or so. i know u a OG but still man search next time please
