Default Largest Tires Possible?

Has anyone used 235/50/17 tires? I'm dizzy caused I've used the online tire calculator so many times I want to put the largest tire possible on my 99 GS300, using GS400 OEM 17x8 5 spoke wheels. (wheels are like pic below)

Im sure you can use that size tire.

with stock wheels, and offsets I dont see why you couldnt.

someone may want to chime in?

or you can post this in the wheel/tire forum.

with that 235/50/17 setup, when car shows u doing 60mph, u will actually be doing 62.2mph. not a bad trade-off but i would just do 245/45/17 if i were u.
way less trade-off (u would be doing 60.8mph when speedo shows 60mph)with same feeling as 235/50/17.

I guess my question would be why?

I hate the look of "buffalo" tires on stock wheels.
I see this done on Civics a lot and it looks horrid. (i.e. 195/70-15 instead of OE 195/65-15).

Are you going for a Donk look? Trying to find cheaper tires?

Two caveats of doing this: slower acceleration and worse around-town mileage.
You're basically changing the final drive ratio when doing this.

235/50/17 is just a bit thicker (sidewall, not tread) than stock. should be a problem, until you corner hard enough that the softer sidewall will argue with your steering input.

I had went 225/45/17 in a 7.5x17 rim before (not on the Lex), I don't see why can't you use it.

"Buffalo tires" that's hilarious lol I know just the look you're talking about. lol

My reasoning was along these lines. My stock tire for my GS300 is a 215/60/16 which has a 26" diameter at which my speedo matches GPS mph readings. 235/50/17 have a 26.3 diameter and 245/45/17 are 25.6 diameter.

you have the right idea if you are adjusting the numbers ... to match the diameter

go with 225/50/17, they're the same size as the tires on gen 1 G35's and they're not that much taller.

You're right, that tire is almost identical in diameter and width to my stock 215/60/16 tire. Only I'm hoping I can fit something a little wider on an 8" rim.
