Purolator cabin filter fits too loose on GS
After 8 years I decided to replace the original cabin filter in my 2000 GS4 with a Purolator brand cabin filter (part numer #C35426) since that was readily available for $19 at the local auto parts store (our Lexus dealer doesn't carry this in stock). The installation is super simple and only took me less than 10 minutes but I did notice the replacement Purolator filter fits very loose and left a 1/4-inch gap on each side of the frame that it sits in. The OEM filter uses a thick 1/2-inch foam on each side to provide a snug fit vs a 1/4-inch foam for this replacement. To prevent unfiltered dirty air from going thru the gaps, I taped another piece of foam insulation (left over when I was winterizing the windows) to fill in the gap. If I had to do it over again, I would just buy a factory cabin filter at $26 instead and besides it comes impregnated with charcoal whereas this replacement filter is just a plain white filter. Hope this helps for those of you who are planning to change out the cabin filter.
