Question 1998 GS300 - A D V I C E please

Greetings all,

i am about to buy my father-in-laws 1998 GS300. he is the original owner and the car is in fantastic condition... it has about 88,000 miles on the odometer.

he is about to have it serviced before he sells it (to me). i have 'searched' here - but i'll ask anyway... are there any major service issues that he should address at this mileage point?

*water pump? timing belt?

what would be a fair price for this vehicle? it is accident free and looks and runs perfect!

thanks in advance!

welcome to CL...
the major service you would want to get done is the 90K service which involves mainly replacing the water pump and timing belt.
depending on where and who does it, this service ranges between $800-$1600 including parts and labour.
Also, you might want to get the lower ball joints replaced as they are known to give up around 90k. trust me its not a pretty site if they give up on you. change them now and have peace of mind.

welcome again.....
feel free to post any questions you might have. there is tons of knowledge in CL.
But try to use the search function before asking any question cos chances are its been covered before....
Personally, i think anything between $8500-$10,000 is ok. i dont know what the GS market is like in your area though.

definatley do the lower ball joints! my balljoint failure caused $2000 body damage! they are worth doing before they break!

Default Pricing

I think NADA trade-in to NADA private party sale is a good barometer for pricing
