Just throwing the word FI out there means nothing. You need the right set up

Everyone keeps saying, not possible unless you go FI, but that's not always the case.

GS400+fuel controller

2jzgte+?

Look at who makes more power in the lower band, turbo has to spool to make power
I wish I could have found a dyno sheet that were around the same power range, so those who say FI can see inorder to get fast 0-60 takes low band power to accomplish, which most simple FI set up don't have, but will usually catch up in the higher gears. Most simple FI set ups make most of their power above 5k, which is great, but for such a short distance/low speed 0-60, you need something that will make power in the low section of the power band.

so seriously here guys, what i have taken from this post is that i am now really considering getting a fuel controller... i guess the apexi safc II is the recommended one for our gs400's??? also what are the down sides to getting one of these... are my already not so great mpg's of like 22 avg. going to drop to like 18 mpg if my actual driving style doesn't change at all???

with every mod there is usually a downside so what is it with the fuel controller, and would you guys recommend getting headers at the same time for an additional 1000$ (w/ install) or is this not worth the extra G?? BTW I am about to hit 100K miles but it is still in tip top shape... not sure if adding headers and fuel controller is bad for a slightly high mileage car or not either??

Sojah, 22mpg is awesome. Man I miss those days lol. I get about 7-12mpg
12mpg is conservative driving where I'm not in boost all day

maybe i should clarify a little... avg 22 mpg is like my daily m-f commuting routine. on the weekends when i launch at every light that i see an acura or bmw or whatever next to me i will avg about 16-17 mpg a gallon. i was just wondering if the fuel controller was going to mess up my daily commuting mpg's but now that i think about it i believe it has different settings that you can preset so when you want to get jiggy with it you can set it at whatever fuel setting, and when you want to just put it on cruise going down the highway you can set it at that too.

It will probably give you a little better gas mileage as long as you aren't stomping on it. No need to mess with different maps.

Just a question as our tranny sucks, (raced my bro's 330xi on the highway and it's the same) what other options are there like a 6spd auto? is it possible to add gears into a tranny?

just thinking wild here...

If you can't pull from 330xi in your 400, then there is something wrong with your car.

I don't know, but his 330 is the 255hp version (2006) and have 6spd auto that's by far much better than mine, and I ran my GS with IS350 and it's not much difference...
I'll reset my ECU and see again...

You ran your GS400 against an IS350 and there wasn't much difference?

And you got pulled by a 330xi?...

Are you sure you didn't race an IS250?

it's my friend's IS350.

so far...

GTR R32 vs IS350, from a stop, I tried launching the GTR, couldn't, so IS350 got the lead (a bit), then GTR pulled back in by about 80/90mph but then we stopped as the GTR have a 110mph speed cut...

all others from highways, about 60mph starts

Eclipse vs IS350, equal

GS vs IS350, IS350 by a nose? did a few runs, IS350 always faster a bit...

Eclipse vs 330xi, Eclipse lead the start, but 330xi came up by about 100mph

GS vs 330xi, 330 lead start, GS catching up/pull away slowly about 80mph-100mph, 330xi came up til 130mph the 330xi's speed cut.

To get into the high 4s low 5s, you'll need to get at least a TC and LSD. Final drive ratio does not need to change otherwise you might introduce the 3rd gear on your way to 60mph. The time you've reduced with the shorter gear will be canceled out by the extra time it takes to shift into 3rd.

With that in mind, You do not need FI to acheive those times. Take away a few hundred pounds and you'll be getting closer. Of course you might be stripping away your luxury items though.

Are there any downsides to the fuel controller? With an otherwise stock engine is it worth the money?
