Default Installation of Chrome Shifter Bezel Ring

For those that ordered and received the bezel...how do we install this thing?

I don't want to mess anything up...do we just pop/pry the original out?

TIA

Rookie, it's not hard at all.

1.Remove ashtray center.
2.Use a flathead screwdriver to pry up the center console near the control buttons.
3.Disconnect the control button plug and pull the center console back and away from the ashtray assembly.
4.The old trim plate should maneuver off the slotted grooves.
5. You can replace the old trim plate with the new one and re-attach everything.

I may have missed a few things, but it's real easy. Good luck.

Recieved mine this morning and I had it installed less than 10 minutes after the UPS guy left. A couple other notes: You will need to unscrew your shift **** and put the car in drive and put the emergency break on to get the ashtray out. Then I just use my fingeres to lift the center console up instead of a screw driver to release the clips on either side, i think you have less chance of damaging the wood this way. Just lift up both portions of the arm rest all the way and stick your fingernails under the sides where the buttons are and pull up. One side at a time. It should be hard the first couple times you do it but it shouldnt break or anything. Pull the console out towards you, there are two clips holding it in near the dash. Disconnect the two or three wires and your in. rest should be cake.

Thanks Wringo/ProfesrLEX for the instructions/tips...it was pretty easy. If I can do it, anyone can...

Here is what i did:

1. Move the shift **** to Neutral or Drive (this gives room for the ashtray to come out)
2. Open up the ash tray and pull toward you, it's held on with 2 clips. Might have to give it a couple strong nudges to get it out.

3. Remove the wire that is attached to the back of the ashtray. Remove the ashtray.

4. Pry open the center console where the seat heater controls are. You can use your fingers or a flathead screwdriver. It was easier for me w/ the screwdriver, just be careful so you don't accidentally scrape the wood. After opening the center console, there are 3 wires/plugs attached. Unplug those and remove the center console (you will have to pull back toward the center armrest, so open up the armrest to make it easier).

5. Remove the old bezel and slide the chrome bezel in. Reverse process to put everything back together.

MONEY SHOT!

I just ordered mine today, and at the risk of sounding obtuse, is it not possible to just pull out the rubber bezel and insert this one without going thru all these gyrations? Will the Chrome ring break if you just try to insert it without removing the center wood trim? I'm a little nervous I'll break the wood trying to remove it... not the most mechanically inclined person and that's being really euphemistic.

The "rubber" bezel is not rubber but plastic...also the Chrome bezel needs to be inserted into the sides (not sure how to describe it), it doesn't just snap onto the top.

It's not bad at all, I'm not the most mechanically inclined person either, and it only took me about 10-15 minutes.
