You can't monitor AFR, which is absolutely the MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR, from the Afc.

To CORRECTLY tune your car you need a wideband which the Afc doesn't have. If your friend told you he could tune it without a wideband then he isn't your friend because just randomly leaning out your car won't do anything but damage your motor. Keep your fingers crossed it hasn't been leaned out too far already, the thing with leaning it out is that it will get better mileage and make more power until you pop the motor or permanently damage it.

ANYONE that knows anything about tuning will tell you the same thing. I would put everything back to "0" until you can get someone who knows something about tuning to correctly tune it for you.

I am glad you put in that you tuned with a wideband at least. I run a SAFC-II on my 3000GT and would not even consider it without an EGT gauge or some other monitoring device. Rich=safe. When you lean your car out, you will definitely get better mpg and HP. However, at a great risk of damaging your engine. I hope everyone understands this is not a simple $250 for 15hp deal. Without proper monitoring and tuning, you can be looking at a rebuild which cost thousands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im considering a safc2 or NEO for my GS300 so it looks like it might be worth while once i get my exhaust done.

Quick VR-4 - you're right but at the same time the toyota engines are pretty robust units and if you have the correct monitoring of AFRs and keep them in the correct range it isnt just going to blow up! of course it may be that you do exhaust and intake, and then put a SAFC on and net very little gain because your AFRs may already be about right. But it will still probably help because it will optimise your car for the modifications you have done to it, and not only for performance but mpg because itll get the thing more spot on right throughout the range.

it will then pay to be a bit more careful of course due to everything being that much more 'strung out' so to speak..
