Need MAJOR Help
I've got a 98 GS400. It's up for smog, and I cannot get the OBD-II sensor to work.
Pre SAFCII it worked. Post it doesnt. Is it because of the SAFC? I dunno.
Car passes the exhaust portion of smog with flying colors, but for the CEL check where they gotta use the OBD-II sensore to check, it just doesn't work. The state's basically said if I can't get it smogged, then they're gonna junk the car. Which I just cant let happen.
I took the car to my shop. He removed the SAFC-II, and checked the wires, and said everything looked fine, but the sensor still wasn't working. However, a big part of me thinks the guy's just a complete moron and just removed the SAFC and then checked to see if the sensor would work. I doubt he actually mightve checked the wiring of the OBD-II sensor itself and wherever it runs to. He's basically saying it's my fault the sensor doesn't work, and there's nothng he can do about it anymore.
My thing is, do any of you have any ideas? I'm not exactly trying to be cheap about it, but I just dont understand what the SAFC has to do with the OBD-II sensor. Maybe a cable got ripped or torn, but I dunno.
I'm picking the car up from the shop tomorrow morning. I'm going to take it to the dealership. If I can get a few tips from the CL community that I could pass along to the mechanic at the dealer, then that would be great, n maybe just help me keep my GS.
Thanks guys
