Have someone re-build your alternator using the stock Lincoln Towncar alternator internals. It's a straight up replacement and will up your alternator voltage at the same time (to 120 I believe). Shouldn't cost more than $130 or so.

This threads old but i have this problem and I'm guessing its my alternator too. last night i was driving and everything was fine, then I got the battery discharge light on then about two mins later my vsc and abs lights turned on then shortly after check engine light turned on and the car shut off. I pushed it to the side of the road. And didn't even try to start it again cause my headlights wouldn't even turn on so i figured it wasn't worth a try. My car is a 98gs400 with 182,000 miles. Thanks for any reply or help u can give

Also my battery is very new and I'm 90% sure its not the battery

What kind of reply or help are you looking for? You seem to have already stumbled upon an old thread containing the answers... Either replace it with OEM for ~ $500, look for a used one, or get yours rebuilt by a professional.

Just wondering if it is a common problem and if what happened to my car sounds like an alternator or something more serious..... It was scary seeing my car just die on me without any prior problems.
