the first number is the width. the second number is how tall. and the last one is the size of the rim. both of them are the same height. aren't they??

wait wait sorry i just remember the 2nd number is the percentage of the height compared to the width. but i still get the 255 wider is better

guys,

i mean the overall diameter of 255/35/20 is too tall at ~27.02"(255x.35x2)/25.4+20=27.02"

It depends on what kind of suspension you have, also the off set of the rims.
I have 20X9 with 255/35/20 in the front, I have no rubbing problems at all.

Aloha

ok Z,

those friendly guys over at the rack taught me this calculation to find otu the overall diameter on tyres. this is to avoid your odometer off too much. basicallly you want stay within +/- 3% of stock height.

our stock GS 225/55/16 is ((225x0.55x2)/25.4)+16 = 25.75"
or 235/45/17 is ((235x0.45x2)/25.4)+17=25.33"
you can go 245/45/17 =25.68"

245/35/20 is ((245x.35x2)/25.4)+20 =26.75". this is the max that one should go as it is already 3.8% higher than 25.75" , imho...

Thumbs up

Will is right, the overall diameter of the 255/35/20 will be too tall. Try to stay as close as possible to the diameter of the stock setup.

To calculate the overall diameter of a combo, add the diameter of the wheel to the height of the sidewalls. Convert the section width (255mm) to inches (10.04 inches). Calculate the section height by multiplying the aspect ratio (.35) by the section width. The section height is 3.51 inches. The section height times 2 (both sidewalls) is 7.02 inches. Adding this to the wheel's 20-inch diameter will give you an overall diameter of 27.02 inches.
